Frequently Asked Questions

Q   How do I know my insurance will cover mental health treatment?

A   The best way is to contact your insurance provider before your first therapy appointment and use my Insurance Company Questions – Mental Health Benefits form located on my website under Forms as a guide when you contact your insurance. Many clients find it is helpful to write down the answers, including the name of the customer service agent they spoke with, and bring it to their first therapy appointment.

Q   How much might I have to pay for therapy if I have Out Of Pocket (OOP) costs before I meet my deductible?

A   It depends on your insurance as well as the length and type of therapy session. Most sessions last about 50 minutes. Sometimes they may run a little longer. Intakes and psychological testing have different rates than individual therapy. Out Of Pocket costs after insurance typically range from $70-200.00 per session.

Q   I’m feeling confused about insurance terms such as copay, out-of-pocket, and deductible. Can you help me better understand these terms?

A   Insurance can be confusing for all of us. Please see this useful website for easy to understand explanations of these terms. https://www.moneyunder30.com/understanding-your-health-insurance

Q   I want therapy, but don’t want anyone to know – including my insurance – about my treatment. Can I still use my insurance?

A In order to use your insurance, I will have to present my best clinical opinion of what seems to be troubling you. I provide your insurance company with a code or codes they use to determine if treatment is covered. For example, let’s say a person appears to have Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The code I send the insurance is F43.10. This code will be used by the insurance to determine if treatment is covered and whether the company will pay for the service. The insurance company knows what condition this code stands for and it will be part of your record with your insurance company. If I do not send your information, including a covered diagnostic code, to your insurance, they will not pay for services.

Some people do not want their private health information – including mental health treatment – being shared with anyone. Clients who want complete control and privacy regarding their mental health treatment do not use insurance and self-pay for services.

Q   Will you accept self-pay clients and how much does it cost?

A   I accept self-pay clients. Prices vary depending on the service from $75.00-260.00/hour. Payment is expected at time of service. Please call for more information.

Q   I need forms filled out for Social Security Disability. Do you complete disability forms?

A   I only complete disability forms for clients who have been in active treatment with me for at least six months or longer, except in extraneous circumstances. I also charge fees for writing letters, completing disability forms, and other communications that take place outside the therapy hour. I charge 25.00 for 15 minute intervals.

Q   Do you prescribe medication?

A   I do not prescribe medication.
